Whoever rescues a single life earns as much merit as though he had rescued the entire world.

Hello Bahrain. The Vagabond wishes you peace.

There was another earthquake in Japan today. 2 people died. There are people from Japan and other nations over there trying to rescue the survivors. But we have forgotten about Japan.
There are still desperate, homeless people in Haiti. Some folks are in Haiti trying to rescue the people who need it. But we have forgotten about Haiti.
There are many places in the world where people need rescuing. But we have long ago forgotten about them.
All those stories were replaced by Libya. And now the desperate situation in Libya has all but been replaced by a bunch of ridiculous politicians in Washington who are proposing cutting back on programs that help Americans and some of which will put us in the position of needing to be rescued.
A pathetic attempt to decrease the national debt by taking money away from where it isn't and not looking for it where it is. As these shameful negotiations take the focus away from Japan, Haiti and wherever else in the world the human race is in danger and instead endanger the human American, turning off the lights on our way of life and stalling all forward motion into an improved nation, I am finished having any respect for or trust in the duly elected fools that sit in Congress. Where is the intelligence, where is the morality, where is the humanity, where is the courage, where is the idealism?
It's ironic that we have spent trillions of dollars to keep the world safe for democracy when our own democracy is in danger of becoming a flop. There's a large group in the House of Representatives that doesn't represent the American people. Take any one of these Republican representative and ask him how many poor people he has in his constituency. He probably doesn't' know. But if he does, ask him why he's not out rescuing those people instead of trying to deny them the social programs that help keep them alive.
I wish I were young enough or wealthy enough to be a real vigilante. Albert Schweitzer said "Search and see if there is not some place for you to invest your humanity."
The next person you rescue may be next door, or down the street, in a foreign country or in your own country.

SPRING QUESTION
(This is not a contest)
NASA has planned to send a two man mission on an 18 month trip to the planet Mars. It would take 6 months for the astronauts to get there and after 6 months of exploration another 6 months to return.
Should they do it and why, and if not, why not?

Frustating... the news has been really bleak but I am not so quick to condemn those who have had their attention span jerked away from major stories to deal with major issue that are closer to home.
Better things get caught up in a wahs of this nature than the latest tabloid fodder. I mean do you really care why Lindsay Lohan did whatever or if Brittney or Miley are wearing underwear?
I would like to leave you with a short story. My Army sister was stationed not far from here, at Ft. Leavenworth in Kansas. A tornado struck the provincial town I was jogging 'round and she called to check on me. It was a small tornado (as tornadoes go, I reckon), certainly not as fierce as the ones that are in the land where the winds carried Dorothy to Oz.
Anywho, the thing about THIS small twister was it was literally in my front yard!! I happened to be out that day and something said 'stay in the library' and not to try to outrun the approaching storm, as the skies omniously darkened. And while there was no loss of life and very mild property damage, the tornado WAS IN MY FRONT YARD. That alone made it a big event, no matter what level of damage it may or may not have caused.
What I hoped to illustrate is that there is no reason to be so hard on people for not being consumed with all the tragedies everywhere. There are even more profound and dramatic traumas that STILL go unmentioned in the media.
I am only sayin'...
You have every right to be angry and disallusioned with your government. I see the US is in yet another war and how many does this make? I would be so ticked that I would want to take that government and kick them from hell to kingdom come. Have they all lost leave of their senses? The people at home who need help the most are not getting it and programs are being cut and governments are going broke, Where does it all end? The insanity just never seems to stop.
Lassie Come Home. That is quite funny. LOL I really enjoyed this puzzle and it kept my mind active all week! THANKS!!
As for your post. I have been spitting angry at the cuts to the social programs. Cut to LIHEAP? What?? Heat for the poorest of the poor. Sometimes I sit in my apartment VERY cold. Now I will have to move. And I am not in the best shape to move. Do they care about the poorest and sickest in our nation. I think not. So sad. Thanks for this post.
Frustrating is saying it mildly! I keep praying as I don't know what else to do.
Hugs,Rose
