Very sorry to hear this db. The birds will come back but they will be very careful. Once they see a cat, they get nervous, and so they should.
DB, I sure do know how you feel hopefully they will come back soon.
Birds are quick learners. As long as they know that their is a predator nearby, they will be very reluctant to come around.
