My New Year’s Wish
The end of the year is upon us and soon we will have a brand new year --- a year of new beginnings, new attitudes, new introspections, a new journey of 366 days to make of it what we will. I have long thought that life is so very precious and unpredictable. We only get one chance at life, so why would we not want to live it with as much happiness and cheer as we could find.
We all know folks who seem to be perpetually unhappy. They whine, they complain they are never happy with anyone or anything and they continue in a downward spiral to misery, despair and stress. I have never understood why some people prefer to live their life this way suffering from “negativitis”. It is virtually impossible to complain and be happy at the same time…impossible as well to rescue someone from their own attitude. If an individual has time to whine and complain about something, then they have time to do something about it, but they choose not to do that continuing along on their pathway to even more misery and anguish.
People who complain about everything avoid taking responsibility for their life and they operate with a long list of excuses about why they are not successful or able to reach their goals.
Why, when we are genuinely happy to see someone, do they take it upon themselves to dwell on their aches, pains and illnesses and other petty gripes. Does anything happy ever happen in their life and if it does, then why are those times so seemingly unimportant that they are rarely ever mentioned? Is it more satisfying to be miserable and to try to spread that feeling on to others?
The years go by so quickly and I certainly do not want to be on my death bed wondering why I never found any happiness in life. Perhaps I was waiting for “someday” or “sometime” or “if only” and those opportunities slipped by unnoticed or I made a decision not to respond to them.
I do not know the meaning behind it all, but I am pretty certain that human beings are the only animals that can make the choice to be miserable and unhappy. Other species appear to live in the “now” and they accept the moment for what it is.
My wish is that more and more people will find happiness in life and that they will want to share and celebrate those joyous moments of feeling alive and revitalized. It has been said that a truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery while on a detour. I want to be that kind of person and I want to wish that for my friends as well. A new year and a new beginning. Is this the year that we try to bring some happiness into our life and appreciate every day for the wonder that it is? Happy people are in short supply and we do need more of them. No qualifications are needed, just a genuine desire to be cheerful and to want to spread that feeling around to others.
Wishing you heartfelt happiness, joy, and contentment in 2012. May you be the kind of person that others love to be around.
