Hello Stuart
********************
I am so far behind in responding to my emails that sometimes I think I should just stand on the corner of a busy intersection some where and hand out cards that say "Thank You" to everyone who passes by.
I think I missed a few birthdays and was late on one (sorry Jen) and way behind on people's comings and goings. It isn't unusual for me to be up at 2 in the morning reading old emails and responding to some of them.
Why do I care? Because, as innocuous as it may seem at times, the contacts we make through this miracle of modern trouble making called the computer, are golden threads of friendship and care. Facebook really ought to be called Sharebook. Personal experiences are put online to be shared by others and sometimes problems are solved by someone out there in E-land who knows the answer. I know I am always grateful for someone who has done battle with some Google Monster and won and thus can pass on the right moves to make.
Knowing something about human nature you know that every one, even if he's the worst skink in the world, is in need of some affection and understanding on some level of his life in spite of what his social network face may suggest.
At least, but very important, this Internet specter enables us to keep lines of communication open between people who may never meet but who have become friends and acquaintances.
Read blogs, and, if you have something to say leave a comment. Sometimes it's good to know just that somebody read your blog. Read your emails and answer them. Go through Facebook and Twitter and whatever else you're connected to and see what's happening. And don't put it off just because you're weary. The other person wants to hear from you. As the little girl said "Love is what makes you smile even when you're tired."
Don't have time? Neither do I. That's why you end up with a mountain of unanswered mail, like mine. But I keep at it when I do have some time. So if I respond to an email you sent me in September don't be surprised.

Mountains And Mole Hills
What we need is to love without getting tired.

Hello Arenillas Ecuador

I don't believe in Satan, but if I did I would say one of his greatest talents is his remarkable ability to mess things up. Every day is a disaster, to one degree or another. Things explode, or they implode. Things break down and refuse to get fixed. Other things don't work right. Things don't go the way we want them to or expect them to. Everything is a mess. We tried, we failed. So what's the use?
Every important thing we do in life should be an act of love, whether we are caring for one person or caring for a million. I used to have an early morning radio program in a big city. Over the course of the morning I had at least a million listeners. I went on the air before most of them were awake. As they gradually came around they relied on me to tell them what day it was, what time it was, what the weather forecast was for the day, etc. I would also remind them frequently that they had another chance to do great things. I would pepper my announcements by saying "Thank heaven we have another day on our hands." Then, since I was in a big city with a lot of commerce going on I would say things like "Make that sale!" "Win that case!" "Pass that test!" "Sign that contract!" "Get that job."
People would often write and tell me how much they appreciated that gentle boot in the rear as they were getting ready to leave the home and head out into the jungle and how much I inspired them to meet the challenges of the day with a positive attitude.
When you are up and at 'em today remember that you have another day on your hands, and a chance to make a mole hill out of that mountain Satan made for you yesterday.

SPRING QUESTION
(This is not a contest)
Come on. Picked up another answer today. Where's yours?
NASA has planned to send a two man mission on an 18 month trip to the planet Mars. It would take 6 months for the astronauts to get there and after 6 months of exploration another 6 months to return.
Should they do it and why, and if not, why not?

Getting It Wrong
Without mistakes there is no forgiving, without forgiving there is no love.
Mother Teresa
**************
We are all crazy. There is no doubt abut that. Next winter go out and throw a snowball into a crowd of people and it is certain to hit someone who is being irrational about something. The sanest one among us is secretly a dope. a secret most carefully hidden from himself
Whenever I do something that makes no sense, even though it seemed to be the best and most intelligent thing at the time, I wonder where my brain is, if it just took a little vacation while my back was turned. If you haven't made a mistake you haven't lived yet.
There was a man I worked for, briefly, who was a state-of-the-art paranoid ignoramus. Every time one of his workers did something wrong, no matter how small it was, he would demand to know why the person did it. If the employee said "I made a mistake," the boss would ask him why he made a mistake, as if he had done it on purpose. The boss simply had an empty place in his head where his reason was supposed to be.
I am very grateful I haven't been kicked in the shins by some supervisor over some of the dumb things I've done. I have been forgiven for things I would never perhaps forgive myself for. No, I won't cite you any examples, I don't want to think about them.
The point is I was forgiven. After a few times of being astonished by someone's forgiveness of me I turned the coin over and saw that I, myself, was learning forgiveness and that I could easily forgive other people for their mistakes. Once I discovered that secret, life got a little brighter. We all make mistakes. Why not forgive other people for theirs?
Sometimes the mistakes are big ones, people get hurt or property is destroyed. Then the act of forgiveness becomes a major effort, but the condition of not staying angry, resentful or hateful, of forgiving, is a double blessing.
But what about people who have purposely done something to hurt? I have forgiven the nasty critics. I have forgiven people who lied to me, people who lied about me and those who believed them. I have even forgiven some who were purposely malignant, hurtful and harmful to me and caused me pain and sorrow. Those people were mistaken about me.
Forgiveness isn't easy, no body ever said it was, and sometimes it seems impossible. But wherever there is animosity in your heart, there is no love.

What we need is to love without getting tired.
Mother Teresa
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Even if you don't like them much, your relatives are always your relatives, family is always family, no matter what. But it's not the same with friends. They come along, but they can also go. Sometimes they just die. Sometimes they move away and you lose contact. I was talking with someone this afternoon who remarked that she feels she lost a bunch of friends when we moved from "the A word" over here to Google Land and I think that's true. "What ever happened to so and so? Where did she go?" If we didn't grab or send an email address in time a friendship is lost.
Also, it is more difficult to keep in touch with people over here with this cumbersome Google system. Soon I will put all the blogs I want to read on my favorites list as I did in "the other place."
But there are other ways to lose a friend. Sometimes one of them will marry or otherwise settle down with someone who doesn't like you. That's happened to me twice. You try to keep up a friendship, but it's torn.
Then there are those who are the unfortunate receivers of lies and gossip about you. Malicious people who have nothing better to do than to fabricate false information about you out of jealousy or some other sub-human motive, can destroy a friendship. That has happened to me three times.
What can be said for the friend who suddenly turns unfriendly and becomes malignant. That also happened to me in a very heartbreaking manner. Suddenly, for no stated reason, a friend of many years wasn't a friend any more.
Then there are those who simply disappear. Where is my friend George C.? We were sending emails back and forth and then mine began the DAEMON route. I don't know what happened to him. I don't know if he's dead, in jail, changed his name, won the lottery and moved to Portugal, or what. George, my dear friend, where are you?
One day I started to make a list of all the people I used to know and like that I don't know anymore. It was a very long where-are-you list. In fact it was so long I had to stop. There are too many of them. It made me sad.
Some friends are closer and more important to you than others but my advice is love all of your friends as much as you can because you never know when you might lose one.
